Available Dogs for Adoption

Please read the entire Adoption Process Section below before submitting your application.  It is very important that you understand how our process works and what we consider when placing a Weimaraner.  Thank you.

Available Dogs for Adoption - If you find a dog on our list that you are interested in adopting, please complete an Adoption Application and return to the rescue committee via e-mail at rescue@AtlantaLovesWeims.org  or call one of our Rescue Agents for more information:

Michelle:                     H:  770-499-7622   C:  678-575-3454

If you would like to foster one of our dogs that does not yet have a foster home, please complete the Foster Home Application, as well as the Adoption Application  (both documents are required in order to foster)  and return via e-mail to rescue@AtlantaLovesWeims.org

Please keep in mind that we have new dogs coming into our program almost everyday, so if you do not see a dog that would be a perfect match for your family, please check back often or call one of our Rescue Agents.

See Our Dogs...

Note:  Our volunteers give up many hours of time to do the work necessary to run this organization and care for all the Weims that come into our program.  Our resources and manpower often times become very stretched.  If we do not contact you within 24 hours, please give us a call.

Adoption Process:  Once you have completed an adoption application, and we check vet references, we will then do a phone interview to determine if the dog that you have an interest in fits the situation.  If the dog is a good match, we will arrange for a home visit and bring the dog (or possibly dogs) that we feel best fits the potential adopter's lifestyle and situation.   We take into account fencing situations, lifestyle situations, additional pets already living in the home and children when matching a dog to a potential adopter's situation.  We reserve the right to decline a home that is not right for a Weimaraner.  Remember....Weimaraners are a wonderful and loving breed to own, BUT...WEIMARANERS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE!

If the home visit is approved, then we will ask that you complete an Adoption Contract to finalize the adoption.  We require a contract be signed and an adoption fee of

$175 - Adult dogs (7+ years)

$275 - Adult dogs (1-7 years)

$375 - Puppies less than 1 year (foster to adopt with S/N contract)

If after adopting a dog, the owner finds that the dog is not a good match or if they cannot keep the dog, the dog must be returned to the Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue, as stated in the Adoption Contract.

We must trust ourselves and listen to our doggie friends when deciding which home is right for them.  We must be able to place each dog in loving hands and know that we have done everything in our power to give the dog the chance it deserves.

Some of our team of volunteers......we're growing leaps and bounds!  Come along for the ride and join our club and assist us in saving helpless, unwanted, homeless Weimaraners....

Meet Our Boys and Girls...

photos

Name: Winston  Age: Approx 8 yr  Sex: M

If you think you don't have the time or energy for a young Weim, Winston would be a great dog for you!  Winston was found wandering a country road... He's a gentle boy with children and adults, but on occasion does have a jealous streak with other dogs, so he would prefer a one dog home.  He loves to take walks and has good stamina (but is also quick to do his business when let out into the fenced yard.)  Winston eats with vigor, likes to follow you around the house and lay at your feet, and enjoys having his ears scratched and his neck hugged.  He is trustworthy to be left free in the house for 8 - 10 hours per day and asks for nothing more than to be loved and fed when you get home!  He is a low-maintenance (very little shedding) dog, and a very loving companion.

Winston is up-to-date on his shots, is neutered and Heartworm negative.

Won't you give Winston a 'forever' home where he can spend the rest of his life?  Winston is in a foster home.

photos

Name: Bishop  Age: Approx 7-8 yr  Sex: M

Bishop is a sweet, gentle Weim that came to rescue from a West GA shelter where he was found as a stray.  Bishop is a big, happy-go-lucky dog that is up-to-date on his shots, HW- and microchipped.  You couldn't ask for a more laid back big boy that only wants to lay his head in your lap and be loved.  Bishop is not good with cats, fine with children, and one of the most loveable Weims we've ever met.  Won't you give Bishop a place to lay his head?  Bishop is in a foster home.

photos

Name: Zeke  Age: 1 yr  Sex: M

Zeke came to AWCR after being dropped off at a N. Georgia shelter after a nice lady found him wandering in her backyard.

Zeke is microchipped, neutered/spayed, up-to-date on shots, crate-trained and housebroken.  Zeke knows some commands and couldn't be cuter, sweeter or more loving.  Won't you give give Zeke the 'forever' home he deserves.   (Only those applicants with a fenced backyard will be considered.....)

photos

Name: Lilly  Age: 5 months  Sex: F

Adoption pending....

Lilly, a purebred, female Weim that came to AWCR from a family that could no longer care for her.

Lilly is microchipped, spayed, up-to-date on her shots; Lilly is a very active, typical Weim puppy that will need a firm hand and training (Only those applicants with a fenced backyard will be considered.....) Lilly is in a foster home.

Name: Mason  Age: 3 yr  Sex: M

Mason is a beautiful male, PB Weim that is approx. 3 years old. Mason came to rescue from a middle Georgia shelter where he was on death row until one of our rescue partners called us to see if we could take him. Our wonderful volunteer, Cheryl, drove to pick Mason up and found him to be a well-behaved, handsome, low-key boy, although rather thin, who rode well in the car. Mason is looking for some much needed TLC and even though he's been through so much, he's still wagging his tail. Mason has Heartworms and is intact.  Mason is in a fantastic foster home that  will monitor him through HW treatment and neuter surgery. Mason has a long road ahead of him, but for now, he is safe. Mason will remain in his foster home until HW treatment is complete.

7/9/08: Mason started heartworm treatment today.

7/14/08: Mason is wonderful with kids and other dogs, and good with indoor cats.  He is crate trained and housebroken and readily learns basic commands.  He is a calm and sweet companion in the house.

8/15/08:  Mason had 2nd stage heartworm injection treatment today.  He's doing well and his foster home is keeping a careful watch.  He is a sweet and loving dog who is very happy to be included as a family member.  He's gained some weight and is on the road to being a healthy dog after many difficult challenges.

Name: Nellie  Age: 5 yr  Sex: F

Adoption Pending...

Nellie is a beautiful 5 yr old blue Weimaraner that was picked up from the side of the road by a very nice gentleman in Newnan. She is up-to-date on all her shots and is spayed. Nellie's foster mom and dad say she is extremely sweet and well-behaved, and will make a wonderful companion.

photos

Name: Newman(f/k/a Nolan) Age: 3 yr  Sex: M

Newman is a very handsome 3 yr old Weimaraner that was picked up from the side of the road by a very nice gentleman in Newnan. He is up-to-date on all his shots and was neutered on 7/18. Newman is a very smart boy, housebroken, and is looking for a family to take him home and love him forever.  Newman will make a wonderful family dog...he loves everybody (including children) and everybody that meets him, loves him.

8/10/08: Newman's foster mom says that Newman is an extremely happy, goofy boy with tons of personality.  He LOVES to play ball and is absolutely adorable!

photos

Name: Smitty  Age: 2 yr  Sex: M

Smitty was found in Alabama by a good samaritan.  He was dehydrated and emaciated, but is well on his way to recovery. He is  happy and eager to please.  He is good with children and has shown no interest in cats. Unfortunately, Smitty will need to go through heartworm treatment before he will be available for adoption.  Smitty is in a foster home.

photos

Name: Thisby Age: Approx 5 yr Sex: M

Thisby was brought to an Alabama animal shelter by a good Samaritan who found him wandering in his neighborhood. Many volunteers across 2 states contributed to get Thisby to our rescue program because they knew he was such a wonderful dog who deserved a good home. Thisby is a very handsome, neutered, male, gray Weim who weighs 55 lbs.  He gets along well with other dogs and is very friendly. Thisby would be fine in a home with a small dog. Unfortunately, Thisby will need to go through heartworm treatment before he is available for adoption.

Update 8/31/08: Thisby has done very well with 8-10 other dogs in his temporary foster home which boards weims awaiting foster and adoption. He’s gained some needed weight. He is a social dog who will make a great exercise companion for someone who loves the outdoors. He is affectionate, and will need a home that will crate him and work through separation anxiety, which is typical with dogs who have had so many transitions. AWCR volunteers are always available to help foster and adoptive homes settle in with their new companion.

Thisby really needs a home that can give him the comfort and security he needs for 2-3 months so that he can complete his HW treatment, which is funded and monitored by AWCR. Please consider Thisby as your next best friend, or as a dog you can help for a few months so that he can be adopted with a clean bill of health. We love Thisby and so will you.

photos

Name: Katie Age: Approx 5 - 6 yr  Sex: F

Katie came from a middle Georgia Animal Shelter and was rescued by Mindy, one of our volunteers. Katie has all her shots, is spayed and recovering from having a tumor removed from side. Katie has a very quiet demeanor, is small, and is very loving. She is currently living with her foster family and will begin heartworm treatment very soon. Katie is doing great...She is a happy, sweet girl that would make a loving companion.  She gets along well with other dogs.

photos

Name: Preston Age: Approx 1 yr Sex: M

Preston is a handsome blue male Weimaraner that came to us from a N. Georgia shelter where he was picked up as a stray. He is approximately one year old and has a lot of energy (a typical Weim). He gets along well with other dogs, but probably would not be suited for a home with cats. Preston needs to learn some manners, but appears to be house broken and does well in a crate. He is neutered and is up-to-date on his shots.

photos

Name: Samson Age: 2  yr Sex: M

Samson is an extremely handsome 75 lb. boy that came to rescue from a W. GA shelter where he was dropped off by his owner because they could no longer keep him.

Samson is housebroken, up-to-date on his shots, neutered and housebroken.  Samson is high energy, gets along with other dogs, and would make a great addition to any very active family with older children.  Samson is in a foster home.
